Teenage Girls in Knife Fight: “Honor”, not Headscarf is the Issue

Two groups of teenage girls went after each other with box cutters in Taksim Square on Monday. Note that the groups were mixed, with some girls wearing headscarves and others not. The fight started on the Internet and spilled into the street after one girl (in green on the video) claimed she had been insulted and was fighting in the name of honor (namus). Local shop keepers waded in to separate them and the police took the injured to the hospital and arrested the girl in green for assault. Click here for video of the fight.
