Turkey’s Constitutional Court will start a final hearing on a case to close the governing AK Party for alleged Islamist activities on July 28, a court official said on Tuesday. The 11 judges will meet behind closed doors to reach a verdict in a case that also seeks to bar Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, President Abdullah Gül and 69 leading AK Party figures from party membership for five years. The court’s verdict could be announced on the same day or soon after.
