“Turkish Woman Master Plan”
[The investigation is continuing into] Ergenenekon, a shadowy network whose suspected members are accused of having planned and staged attacks and assassinations for the ultimate aim of toppling the government…
One of the most curious documents seized during the Ergenekon operation is a file titled the “Turkish Woman Master Plan,” depicting the ideal Turkish woman in the minds of the organization’s administrators and methods to make the women in society closer to this ideal prototype.
The plan, which also lists the negative characteristics of Turkish women, says: “They are socially passive. They live in the past and have no expectations or confidence for the future.” However, it also praises Turkish women, using almost literary language for their love of the motherland.
The plan to create the ideal woman makes the following observations about Turkish women: “The literacy rate of our women is very low. They have no economic independence. They have accepted poverty as an act of fate, and their personalities have been suppressed. They have no confidence. They are afraid to think, and they are in a state of laziness of thought. They are inclined to believe in superstitions. They are ineffective inside the family. They have no knowledge of our Central Asian roots. The properties of our matriarchal family structural have been erased from their minds. Their personalities are mostly cowardly or they don’t care about others. They are under sexual oppression. Their religious preferences are under the influence of men.”
The plan, which seeks to bring the Turkish woman to an effective position in the “social, political, economic, cultural and educational” spheres, also went into the indictment as proof of Ergenekon’s social engineering plans.

It seems odd that people get prosecuted for this.or at least that the press goes ‘lookie lookie what evil they’ve been up to.’ A lot of non-crimes are being passed off as criminal activity and are watering down the actual criminal cospiracy and terror charges. I suppose this is what happens when entire hard drives and personal/organizational documents are subjected to fishing-expedition-style scrutiny.
Perhaps, as people sue the government about the inclusion of information of a personal nature in the massive amount of submitted (and publicly accesible) evidence, a desire for some amount of restraint on these search warrants will evolve. That kind of reaction can then be leveraged to restrict what other kinds of info can be included. Maybe. One hopes. (Yes, I find the enthusiasm for extensive wire tapping and broad searches dangerous. This mob will be done away with one way or the other; the state apparatus, with all these broad powers that’ve been legitimized in the public conscience, will remain.)
All that said, I find this significant:
They have no knowledge of our Central Asian roots. The properties of our matriarchal family structural have been erased from their minds.
I have heard this from some guy in his 20’s recently. The claim isn’t unheard of, of course, but apparently a movie mentioning “Baciyan-i Rum” stirred up some reaction and interest among the younger, educated Turks of the secular persuasion. So it appears there might be a receptive audience out there for these ideas. Here’s the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0485510/
I am a woman of Turkish origin, living at this point outside of Turkey. It is a very sad state in Turkey as far as women’s lives concerned. I was in Turkey this summer, I’ve the feeling we have as TURKS going backwards. The WOMEN have been silenced, for that matter people have been silenced. Where have those demonstrations gone? When I went back to States one of my tennis friend who is Jewish said” Tell me, are there any Burk as in Turkey?” That is what they call a black carsaf, otherwise known as a Burka. It is so ridiculous to me to cover your head yet put all the make-up as much. Turkey is in very SAD STATE. If AKP thinks they have the go light they are mistaken. Mr. Gul and Erdogan should think very very careful in their ventures.
